Ohio Miss Amazing is a point of light with statewide impact.
Our founder, Jordan Somer, was volunteering with the Special Olympics when she was moved by a particular athlete’s positive outlook on life. This athlete had run the race and hadn’t received the gold, silver, or bronze medal. However, as she stepped up to receive her ribbon, she proclaimed, “I did it!” to an audience of cheering supporters.
Jordan felt a calling to replicate this celebratory environment, and she did so in the best way that she knew how. At just thirteen-years-old she took the premise of pageantry, a vehicle that she had always used to expand her potential, and made it accessible and empowering for girls and women with disabilities. What began as a simple idea has grown into a non-pro t organization that provides multiple platforms through which girls and women with disabilities share their stories and widen the definitions of femininity and disability.
